The Brampton Beast have been born.   “No more Hockey Brampton.. Officially we’re Brampton Beast from now on!” the club announced through their social media outlets on Wednesday.  The Beast have won the clubs  “Name Your Team” contest beating out the other finalist, the Bandits.

Team President, Cary Kaplan in a letter to Brampton fans on the clubs new website defined a Beast as “a large dangerous animal”, and called Brampton a “Beast of a city.”

Brampton is “Powerful, Growing, Aggressive and Hungry for the future” he continued

Kaplan also thanked fans for their support saying that ” nearly 3000 different people voted ” in the contest that led to the final selection of the Brampton Beast.

The uniqueness of the name does lead to some interesting marketing opportunities for the franchise. Kaplan says that in their research “no other professional team or college team seems to use the name.”

Logo design and slogan creation will begin Wednesday with an expected announcement of  the final team logo and color scheme in the coming weeks.

Understanding that there may be some backlash to the Beast name, Kaplan kept a positive outlook “I know some people will disagree with the final vote, but we are very happy about the result.”

The Beast are set to begin their inaugural season in the Central Hockey League in late-October at the Powerade Centre.

According to the team there are four finalists remaining in the contest with a grand prize of a trip to the Stanley Cup finals. The winner will be selected through a draw set to be held when the team unveils its new logo and colours.
