More NHL Trade Rumours Steve Webster March 28, 2013 Sports 1911 Now that the biggest fish in the trade pool has been moved in Jarome Iginla to the Pittsburgh Penguins what else may happen before the NHLs April third trade deadline that we haven’t talked about yet? Edmonton Oilers defenceman Ryan Whitney is garnering some interest most notably from the Boston Bruins. No word on what Oilers GM Steve Tambellini’s asking price is but the Bruins do need somebody to help the back-end on their power play and the Boston born Whitney would be a perfect fit. The Bruins are also interested in Flames defenceman Jay Bouwmeester but the way the Iginla deal worked out may have soured any chances of that happening. Another good fit for Bouwmeester could be with the Ottawa Senators as they attempt to stay competitive and ensure themselves a playoff spot despite numerous injuries. The Toronto Maple Leafs appear to still be interested in making some additions before the deadline, GM Dave Nonis is said to be looking to add a veteran goaltender, another forward and a top four defenseman, but that the possibility of any would depend on the cost. Earlier rumours of the club’s interest in Calgary netminder Miikka Kiprusoff seem to have cooled since reports that he would not report to another team if he is traded. The most likely roster players to be moved in Toronto are forward Clarke MacArthur and defenceman John-Michael Liles. The Montreal Canadiens likely have made their biggest roster moves already in acquiring Michael Ryder in an earlier trade with Dallas and the recent addition of Jeff Halpern off the waiver wire. The Winnipeg Jets are looking for some forward help given that they rank 19th in goals and 19th in shots on goal and may also be looking to upgrade at backup goaltender with Al Montoya’s struggles between the pipes.
