Quaker Recalls Quinoa Bars Awesome Canada Staff May 17, 2016 Life, Recalls 1945 Quaker Canada Issues Voluntary Recall For Products Sold In Ontario Due to Possible Health Risk Product Limited to a Small Quantity of Specific Lots of Quaker Quinoa Bars Quaker Canada has announced a voluntary recall of a small quantity of specific lots of Quaker Quinoa Bars after an ingredient supplier was found to have distributed sunflower kernels that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes (L.mono). The products were only distributed in Ontario to Longo’s stores and a number of other drug stores and pharmacies across the province. There have been no reported illnesses to date. However, Quaker Canada is initiating the voluntary recall in an abundance of caution to protect public health. L.mono is an organism, which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women. While the vast majority of potentially affected Quaker products were withheld from ever reaching retail shelves, the products being recalled from Ontario are as follows: 5-count boxes of Harvest Quinoa Yogurt Fruit & Nut bars (UPC: 1 00 55577 11020 8, Lot Code: AL-15-16 K, BB/MA: 16 OC 12) 5-count boxes of Harvest Quinoa Chocolate Nut Medley bars (UPC: 1 00 55577 11021 5, Lot Code: AL-19-16 K, BB/MA: 16 OC 16) Pictures of the products listed above will be available on www.quakeroats.ca. At this time there are no other lots of Quaker Quinoa bars or any other Quaker products involved in this situation. The company is working closely with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) to further investigate this issue, but in the meantime is taking these actions out of commitment to and concern for consumers. Consumers who have purchased either of the above products are urged to dispose of or return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. They can also direct any questions to 800-267-6287 or find more information atwww.quakeroats.ca. Think this is Awesome?
