Tim Hortons Expands Electric Vehicle Charging Station Pilot Steve Webster May 30, 2013 Tech News, Technology 2832 Tim Hortons has decided that their pilot project that started in Oakville On. in February has gone so well that it is time to expand. The project to bring charging stations to Canadians with electric vehicles will now have multiple locations throughout BC. The restaurant chain is adding six new stations at strategic locations in British Columbia to help fuel west coasters road trips this summer. This will bring the total number of stations to eight including the Oakville pilot store and a station for corporate employees at head office. “We have been thrilled with the results of the pilot so far. Usage of the charging station in Oakville has surpassed our expectations and we received many calls with requests to expand the pilot,” said Paulo Ferreira, Senior Director, International Strategic Restaurant Design and Building Standards, Tim Hortons. “With more than 3,300 eligible restaurants across the country, we continue to look for opportunities to expand the pilot and contribute to the EV infrastructure.” The charging stations are available for guest use, free of charge, in an effort to study the technology, its usage and potential future opportunities. “The electric vehicle infrastructure is in its infancy and we see a potential opportunity for Tim Hortons to help make a true difference by expanding that infrastructure in Canada,” said Ferreira, “At this stage, the goal for us is to explore and understand the technology, to see how it can work at our restaurants and how we can, in turn, support our guests who choose to go electric.” The BC expansion, is being supported by the Province of BC’s Community Charging Infrastructure Fund and Koben Systems Inc. The plan is to create paths within the province that will allow guests to travel from restaurant to restaurant strictly on electric power.
