ARE YOU BEING YOUR AUTHENTIC SELF? Daydra Facey March 8, 2016 Health & Wellness, Life 1935 ” Always remember that you are absolutely unique. Just like everybody else.” -Margaret Mead Have you ever questioned if the things you are doing are really the things you want to be doing in your life? Were these decisions made by you or for you? I guess what I’m asking is are you being your authentic self? Are you being true to who you really are and going after your dreams and goals that you’ve always had as a young child, teenager or even an adult. Do you love the job you are working at right now? When you think about it are you being who you always knew you were or are you being someone completely different? Did you really enjoy that movie you watched that was suggested by your friend? Did you actually want to join a baseball team this summer? Have you started becoming a completely different person that when you look in the mirror you don’t recognize the person you see? Do you still do the things you love doing like waking up at 6 am just to watch the sun rise or paint all day because it makes you happy? What I’ve learned along my journey is doing the things that make you happy is the most important thing you can do for yourself. We all as humans crave for the approval of others but we are ignoring the most important person who is telling us the direction we need to be taking…OURSELVES. There is no one on this planet that can direct you better than YOU. Now don’t get me wrong I always welcome the opinions of others but only you know the right path that you need to take in life. For example say you are looking for a new job but you are unsure of the type of job you’d like to apply for. You may get a lot of suggestions from others as to what they think you should do, we can appreciate the loving helpful support but only you know the right path that is best for you to take. We get so caught up sometimes trying to fit in and be like everyone else but we are all unique beings on this planet as there is no one else that has your nose, feet or even that birth mark you have on your shoulder. I can remember when I was in high school and being popular and fitting in was my main goal but I’ve since then come to realize that it’s okay to be different, actually it’s better than okay it’s FANTASTIC! I love that I wear things that makes me feel good and it’s my own personal style, I love that my Friday and Saturday nights consists of yummy healthy snacks and watching an hour long lecture on youtube, I love that I enjoy reading articles about Quantum Physics, I love that I listen to all different genres of music and I love that I’m willing to speak my truth and voice my own opinions about different topics and subjects. It may take some practice as it took a bit of practice for me but being true to yourself is the best thing you can do not only for yourself but for everyone. We can be that role model or that rebel, although when people hear the word rebel we immediately picture someone doing something destructive but I think a rebel is just someone who isn’t afraid to be their authentic self. So next time you feel like wearing that scarf in a different way than how others wear it.. DO IT, or if you want to go and try that new Hot Yoga class… DO IT. I’m all about encouraging others to do the things they love as that’s how I currently live my life. Don’t worry about what others may think or say about the choices you make, if it makes your heart sing then go for it because chances are you may be paving the way for others to follow their heart and do the things they’ve always wanted to do as well. Be true to yourself and love who you are because there is no one else on this planet like you. As the saying goes you are one in a million or I guess in our case a billion.
