The Toronto Blue Jays General manager Alex Anthopoulos says they don’t expect to sign their first-round draft pick. The player at hand is high school right-hander Phil Bickford who was selected with the 10th overall pick last month.

Keeping in mind this news may just be posturing on the part of the Jays in an attempt to sign the player.

The MLB recommends a $2,921,400 bonus for the 10th pick, though the Blue Jays do have the flexibility to spend more or less than the suggested amount.
The MLB deadline for teams to get college juniors and high school seniors names on contracts is Friday, July 12. Failing an inked deal with their first round selections teams obtain compensatory picks the following year.

Bickford has committed to Cal State Fullerton for the upcoming season. He will turn 18 on Tuesday.
