With the NHL trade deadline quickly approaching  the trade market has been rather quite thus far, but the rumours are certainly out there and here are the latest involving Canadian NHL teams.

The long serving captain of the Ottawa Senators, Daniel Alfredsson has been rumoured for the better part of the season to be on the move.  Though not due to lack of interest, it doesn’t appear he will be going anywhere.  While Alfredsson would be a great addition to a team planning on making a run at the cup it would be on a purely rental basis (he has declared he plans on retiring at the end of the season) and the asking price appears too high for a few weeks of service.

Another Captain said to be on the move is Calgary’s Jarome Iginla.  The Flames leader is said to be garnering interest from the Penguins, Bruins, Kings, Canucks, Flyers and the Red Wings.  Nothing appears imminent as of yet but don’t be surprised if you see Iginla in a new uniform very soon.

Trade rumors around Calgary team mates Jay Bouwmeester and Miikka Kiprusoff are also heating up.  The Red Wings, Flyers, Blues and Senators have interest in Boumeester while the Blackhawks and Maple Leafs are reportedly showing interest in the Flames netminder.  Kiprusoff has one year left on his deal with a salary of only $1.5 million making him very attractive.   “I’ve been traded once in my life” ( from San Jose to the Flames in 2003) — “and it was probably the best thing that happened in my hockey life,”  said Kiprusoff “But, like I say, I just try to do my job here. That’s it.”

The Maple Leafs appear to be on the hunt for a front line goaltender as their interest in Kiprusoff is not the only rumour out there.  It is still heavily believed the Maple Leafs will trade for Roberto Luongo. Either Mike Komisarek or John-Michael Liles and Tyler Bozak are rumoured to be headed to Vancouver.
